The cards that sell Scarlet ex

Which hit each customer is after, and how to use it to move the box.

  1. Gardevoir ex SAR (101/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by Jiro Sasumo

    Top 1

Gardevoir ex SAR: the box headliner

    SAR · 101/078Illustration: Jiro Sasumo

Gardevoir has been a fan favourite since the third generation, and Jiro Sasumo’s SAR is the card most customers buy Scarlet ex for. It is not the set’s official star, but it is the hit you will hear asked for most at the counter.

Shop tip: promote the box with Gardevoir in the window and on social media, ahead of Koraidon. It is the image that stops collectors in their tracks.

  2. Koraidon ex UR (106/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by aky CG Works

    Top 2

Koraidon ex UR: the box-opening hook

UR · 106/078Illustration: aky CG Works

Koraidon is the cover legendary of Pokémon Scarlet, and its gold UR is the set’s second big card. A gold legendary turns any live opening, giveaway or in-store event into something people want to watch until the last pack.

Koraidon ex also comes as a SAR (103) and an SR (94), so fans of the legendary have three versions to chase in the same box.

  3. Penny SAR (105/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by OKACHEKEPenny SR (100/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by yuu

    Top 3

Penny SAR and SR: for Trainer collectors

    SAR · 105/078PennyIllustration: OKACHEKESR · 100/078PennyIllustration: yuu

Penny, the leader of Team Star in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, has a much sought-after SAR by OKACHEKE. Trainer SARs have their own audience who buy regardless of Gardevoir or Koraidon, so the box has a third reason to buy.

Penny’s SR by yuu is a second version of the same Trainer: useful for customers who do not want to wait for the SAR.

  4. Koraidon ex SAR (103/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by Ryota MurayamaGreat Tusk ex SAR (102/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by Pani Kobayashi

SAR · 103/078Koraidon exIllustration: Ryota MurayamaSAR · 102/078Great Tusk exIllustration: Pani Kobayashi

Ryota Murayama’s Koraidon ex SAR and Pani Kobayashi’s Great Tusk ex SAR complete the ancient-past block of Pokémon Scarlet. They are the cards for customers who collect legendaries and Paradox Pokémon, and they pair with the Miraidon and Iron Treads cards from Violet ex for anyone buying both boxes.

  5. Ralts AR (083/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by Jiro SasumoKirlia AR (084/078) from Scarlet ex SV1S, illustrated by Jiro Sasumo

    Top 5

Ralts and Kirlia AR: what drives single-pack sales

    AR · 083/078RaltsIllustration: Jiro SasumoAR · 084/078KirliaIllustration: Jiro Sasumo

Ralts and Kirlia are Gardevoir’s pre-evolutions, and their ARs are by the same artist as the SAR, Jiro Sasumo. They turn up far more often than SARs and are an achievable target for Gardevoir fans who want to complete the evolution line.

Shop tip: if you sell single packs, display all three cards together. It is your best argument for customers coming back for "one more pack".

Scarlet ex (SV1S) fact sheet for your shop

Scarlet ex is the SV1S expansion and, together with Violet ex, the first of the Scarlet & Violet era: both were released in Japan on the same day, 20 January 2023. Each booster box holds 30 packs of 5 cards, with a 78-card set and 30 secret rares (079 to 108): 5 SAR, 3 UR, 10 SR and 12 AR.

It is the “Scarlet” half of the launch: its star is Koraidon ex, the cover legendary of Pokémon Scarlet, joined by Great Tusk ex, a Paradox Pokémon from the ancient past. Its twin is Violet ex, built around Miraidon and Miriam: it is worth stocking both boxes, as some customers want the complete pair. For more ancient Paradox Pokémon there is Ancient Roar, and the expansion that followed straight after in Japan is Triplet Beat.

Scarlet ex FAQ

Where can I buy Scarlet ex booster boxes wholesale?

Don Bananza is a Pokémon card distributor for shops and verified trade customers: we supply the Scarlet ex Japanese booster box with wholesale pricing for approved customers and shipping from Spain across Europe, subject to availability.

Which card sells the Scarlet ex box?

The Gardevoir ex SAR (101/078) is the big draw, and the gold Koraidon ex UR (106/078) is the one that builds excitement at openings. The Penny SAR (105/078) follows, then the Koraidon ex (103/078) and Great Tusk ex (102/078) SARs.

Should I sell Scarlet ex as sealed boxes or single packs?

Both work. Collectors after the Gardevoir ex SAR, the gold Koraidon or the Penny SAR buy the sealed box; single packs suit Gardevoir fans happy with the Ralts and Kirlia ARs, or customers trying their luck with a couple of packs at an opening.

What is the difference between Scarlet ex and Violet ex?

They are twin expansions released in Japan on the same day, each with its own card list. Scarlet ex revolves around Koraidon ex and has the Gardevoir ex and Penny SARs; Violet ex revolves around Miraidon ex and has the Miriam SAR. Many collectors buy both.
