Why Ancient Roar sells well in store

  • The Roaring Moon ex SAR is the set's big draw: the card your customers ask about before they buy.
  • Only 3 gold URs in the whole expansion, so every box opening builds excitement.
  • 29 secret rares across 30 packs per box: it sells just as well as a sealed box, as single packs or in live openings.
  • Japanese edition: a favourite with collectors for its print quality and price per pack.

    Top 1

Roaring Moon ex SAR: the box headliner

    SAR · 090/066Illustration: Ryota Murayama

Roaring Moon, the ancient version of Salamence, is the Paradox dragon from Pokémon Scarlet, and Ryota Murayama’s SAR is the card most customers buy Ancient Roar for. It appeals to players who know it from the video game and to dragon collectors.

Shop tip: promote the box with this Roaring Moon in the window and on social media; it is the image that best sums up the set.

  2. Roaring Moon ex UR (093/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by takuyoa

    Top 2

Roaring Moon ex UR: the same hit, in gold

    UR · 093/066Illustration: takuyoa

The gold Roaring Moon ex UR is the second version of the same hit that can turn up in the box. Two chances at the set’s star in one booster box keep live openings, giveaways and in-store events gripping until the last pack.

With the full-art SR (84), the set has three versions of Roaring Moon ex for customers who want all of them.

  3. Mela SAR (092/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by rikaMela SR (087/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by kirisAki

    Top 3

Mela SAR and SR: the Team Star Trainer

    SAR · 092/066MelaIllustration: rikaSR · 087/066MelaIllustration: kirisAki

Mela, one of the Team Star bosses from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, stars in rika’s SAR, the most wanted Trainer card in Ancient Roar. Trainer SARs have their own audience who buy regardless of Roaring Moon, so the box has two reasons to buy instead of one.

The Mela SR is a second version of the same Trainer for customers who do not want to wait for the SAR.

  4. Sandy Shocks ex SAR (089/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Toshinao AokiGolisopod ex SAR (088/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Oku

Sandy Shocks ex, the ancient Paradox form of Magneton, in Toshinao Aoki’s SAR, and Golisopod ex in Oku’s round out the Pokémon SARs. Customers collecting every SAR in the set never skip one, and Golisopod also has a Wimpod AR (69) by the same illustrator.

  5. Professor Sada's Vitality SAR (091/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Ryota MurayamaProfessor Sada's Vitality SR (085/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Megumi Mizutani

    SAR · 091/066Professor Sada's VitalityIllustration: Ryota MurayamaSR · 085/066Professor Sada's VitalityIllustration: Megumi Mizutani

Professor Sada is the professor from Pokémon Scarlet, and her card comes as an SR and a SAR by Ryota Murayama, the same illustrator as the Roaring Moon ex SAR. It pairs with the Professor Turo SAR in Future Flash: customers who buy both boxes have one more reason to collect both professors.

  6. Scream Tail AR (071/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by GIDORASlither Wing AR (074/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Takeshi NakamuraBrute Bonnet AR (077/066) from Ancient Roar SV4K, illustrated by Tomokazu Komiya

AR · 071/066Scream TailIllustration: GIDORAAR · 074/066Slither WingIllustration: Takeshi NakamuraAR · 077/066Brute BonnetIllustration: Tomokazu Komiya

ARs turn up far more often than SARs, and in Ancient Roar several are ancient Paradox Pokémon. They are an achievable target for Scarlet players who want "their" Paradox Pokémon without opening a whole box.

Shop tip: if you sell single packs, they are your best argument for customers coming back for "one more pack".

Ancient Roar (SV4K) fact sheet for your shop

Ancient Roar is the SV4K expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released in Japan on 27 October 2023. Each booster box holds 30 packs of 5 cards, with a 66-card set and 29 secret rares (067 to 095): 5 SAR, 3 UR, 9 SR and 12 AR.

It is the ancient side of the Paradox Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet: Roaring Moon, Sandy Shocks, Scream Tail, Slither Wing and Brute Bonnet, with Professor Sada as the Trainer. Its twin is Future Flash, the future side from Pokémon Violet, released on the same day. If your customers lean towards dragons and wild-looking Pokémon, this is the box; if they prefer the robotic "Iron" Pokémon, the other one.

Ancient Roar FAQ

Where can I buy Ancient Roar booster boxes wholesale?

Don Bananza is a Pokémon card distributor for shops and verified trade customers: we supply the Ancient Roar Japanese booster box with wholesale pricing for approved customers and shipping from Spain across Europe, subject to availability.

Which card sells the Ancient Roar box?

The Roaring Moon ex SAR (090/066) is the big draw, and its gold UR (093/066) is the one that builds excitement at openings. The Mela SAR (092/066) follows, then the Sandy Shocks ex (089/066) and Golisopod ex (088/066) SARs.

Should I sell Ancient Roar as sealed boxes or single packs?

Both work. Collectors after Roaring Moon ex as a SAR or UR, or the Mela SAR, buy the sealed box; single packs suit players who follow the Paradox Pokémon and are happy with a Scream Tail, Slither Wing or Brute Bonnet AR.

What is the difference between Ancient Roar and Future Flash?

They are twin expansions released in Japan on the same day, 27 October 2023, with the same format (66 cards and 29 secret rares). Ancient Roar brings together the ancient Paradox Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Professor Sada; Future Flash, the future Paradox Pokémon from Pokémon Violet and Professor Turo.

What is in the Ancient Roar Japanese booster box?

30 packs of 5 cards (150 cards in total). The set has 66 cards and 29 secret rares: 5 SAR, 3 UR, 9 SR and 12 AR.
