The cards that sell Pokémon 151
Which hit each customer is after, and how to use it to move the box.
Top 1
Charizard ex SAR: the box headliner
SAR · 201/165Illustration: miki kudoCharizard is the best-selling Pokémon in any format, and in 151 it has its most recognisable SAR, illustrated by miki kudo. It is the card both the collector and the parent bringing their child to the shop ask about.
Shop tip: if you advertise the box, lead with Charizard. It is the card that draws the most clicks and visits on social media and in the window.
Top 2
Venusaur ex and Blastoise ex SAR: the trio everyone wants
SAR · 200/165Venusaur exIllustration: Yoriyuki IkegamiSAR · 202/165Blastoise exIllustration: Mitsuhiro AritaAlongside Charizard, the Venusaur (Yoriyuki Ikegami) and Blastoise (Mitsuhiro Arita) SARs are the most sought-after cards in 151: the Kanto starter trio is what nostalgic customers ask for. They continue the scenes of their pre-evolutions’ ARs, so customers who start with one usually want the whole line.
Shop tip: show the three SARs together in the window and on social media; the complete trio sells better than any single card.
Top 3
Mew ex UR: the gold card that completes the set
UR · 208/165Illustration: aky CG WorksMew is number 151 in the Kanto Pokédex and its gold version caps off the set. It is the card that builds excitement at live openings and in-store events: everyone wants to see if it turns up.
Top 4
Erika's Invitation SAR: the most wanted Trainer
SAR · 206/165Illustration: Cona NitandaCona Nitanda's Erika SAR, surrounded by Kanto's Grass-type Pokémon, is one of the most sought-after Trainer cards of the Scarlet & Violet era. It attracts a different collector from Charizard's: the one who chases character illustrations.
Together with Giovanni's Charisma (207), it is a reason to keep boxes sealed: they are the set's two Trainer SARs.
Top 5
Charmander, Charmeleon and Pikachu AR: what drives single-pack sales
AR · 168/165CharmanderIllustration: miki kudoAR · 169/165CharmeleonIllustration: miki kudoAR · 173/165PikachuIllustration: Hiroyuki YamamotoARs turn up far more often than SARs, and in 151 they feature the best-known Pokémon in the series. Charmander and Charmeleon form a scene with the Charizard SAR that collectors want to complete.
Shop tip: single packs of 151 work very well as an impulse buy for nostalgic customers and as a gift; casual buyers are after Pikachu, Snorlax or Mewtwo.

Pokémon 151 (SV2a) fact sheet for your shop
Pokémon 151 (Pokémon Card 151 in Japan) is the SV2a special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released in Japan on 16 June 2023. Each booster box holds 20 packs of 7 cards, with a 165-card set and 45 secret rares (166 to 210).
It is no longer a new release, yet it remains one of the most requested Japanese sets: it brings together all 151 first-generation Pokémon, from Bulbasaur to Mew, and speaks both to adults who grew up with Red and Blue and to children who know Pikachu and Charizard. If Kanto sells in your shop, it pairs well with the Megas of Inferno X and Mega Dream ex.
