Why Clay Burst sells well in store

  • The Iono SAR is the set's big draw: the card your customers ask about before they buy.

The cards that sell Clay Burst

Which hit each customer is after, and how to use it to move the box.

  1. Iono SAR (096/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by kirisAki

    Top 1

Iono SAR: the card that sells the box

    SAR · 096/071Illustration: kirisAki

Iono, Paldea’s streamer Gym Leader, is one of the best-loved Trainers of the generation, and kirisAki’s SAR is the card most customers ask about Clay Burst for. Trainer SARs have their own audience who buy whether or not they play.

Shop tip: a streamer Trainer is a natural fit for live openings. Put this card on the video thumbnail or in the window and the box sells itself.

  2. Ting-Lu ex UR (097/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by 5ban Graphics

    Top 2

Ting-Lu ex UR: the gold legendary

    UR · 097/071Illustration: 5ban Graphics

The gold Ting-Lu ex UR is the set’s second big card and the only gold Pokémon in Clay Burst. A gold legendary is the moment everyone waits for at an opening, a giveaway or an in-store event.

Ting-Lu ex also comes as a SAR (94) and an SR (88): three versions of the same legendary for the customer who collects it.

  3. Tinkaton ex SAR (093/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by Tika Matsuno

    Top 3

Tinkaton ex SAR: for fans of Paldea’s Pokémon

    SAR · 093/071Illustration: Tika Matsuno

Tinkaton, the hammer-wielding Pokémon, is one of the best-liked new designs from Paldea, and Tika Matsuno’s SAR is the third most sought-after card in the set. It draws a different customer from Iono: one who collects Pokémon for their design rather than the Trainer.

Tika Matsuno also drew the Tinkatink (76) and Tinkatuff (77) ARs, so the full evolution line is a good goal for single-pack buyers.

  4. Ting-Lu ex SAR (094/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by KEIICHIRO ITOChi-Yu ex SAR (092/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by AKIRA EGAWA

SAR · 094/071Ting-Lu exIllustration: KEIICHIRO ITOSAR · 092/071Chi-Yu exIllustration: AKIRA EGAWA

Ting-Lu ex by KEIICHIRO ITO and Chi-Yu ex by AKIRA EGAWA are the set’s two legendary SARs. Anyone gathering all four Treasures of Ruin needs both Clay Burst and Snow Hazard, so stocking the two boxes side by side helps sell both.

  5. Saguaro SAR (095/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by Sanosuke SakumaIono SR (091/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by Sanosuke Sakuma

Saguaro, the Academy’s art teacher, has a SAR by Sanosuke Sakuma, and the Iono SR is a second version of the set’s star for customers who do not want to wait for the SAR.

  6. Raichu AR (074/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by Toshinao AokiTyranitar AR (079/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by NurikabeFarigiraf AR (083/071) from Clay Burst SV2D, illustrated by Mina Nakai

    AR · 074/071RaichuIllustration: Toshinao AokiAR · 079/071TyranitarIllustration: NurikabeAR · 083/071FarigirafIllustration: Mina Nakai

ARs turn up far more often than SARs, and in Clay Burst they mix classics such as Raichu and Tyranitar with new Paldea Pokémon such as Farigiraf. They are an achievable target for customers buying pack by pack.

Shop tip: if you sell single packs, they are your best argument for customers coming back for "one more pack".

Clay Burst (SV2D) fact sheet for your shop

Clay Burst is the SV2D expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released in Japan on 14 April 2023, the same day as its twin Snow Hazard. Each booster box holds 30 packs of 5 cards, with a 71-card set and 28 secret rares (072 to 099): 5 SAR, 3 UR, 8 SR and 12 AR.

The twins split the four Treasures of Ruin between them: Clay Burst gets Ting-Lu ex and Chi-Yu ex, while Snow Hazard has Chien-Pao ex and Wo-Chien ex. What sets this box apart is Iono, the streamer Electric-type Gym Leader and one of the most popular Trainers of Scarlet & Violet. For customers after the Paldea starters, offer Triplet Beat as well.

Clay Burst FAQ

Where can I buy Clay Burst booster boxes wholesale?

Don Bananza is a Pokémon card distributor for shops and verified trade customers: we supply the Clay Burst Japanese booster box with wholesale pricing for approved customers and shipping from Spain across Europe, subject to availability.

Which card sells the Clay Burst box?

The Iono SAR (096/071) is the big draw, and the gold Ting-Lu ex UR (097/071) is the one that builds excitement at openings. The Tinkaton ex SAR (093/071) follows, then the Ting-Lu ex (094/071) and Chi-Yu ex (092/071) SARs.

Should I sell Clay Burst as sealed boxes or single packs?

Both work. Collectors after the Iono SAR or the gold Ting-Lu ex buy the sealed box, which is ideal for live openings; single packs suit customers happy with an AR such as Tinkatink, Raichu or Tyranitar.

What is in the Clay Burst Japanese booster box?

30 packs of 5 cards (150 cards in total). The set has 71 cards and 28 secret rares: 5 SAR, 3 UR, 8 SR and 12 AR.

What is the difference between Clay Burst and Snow Hazard?

They are twin expansions released on the same day, with the same set size. Clay Burst has Iono, Ting-Lu ex, Chi-Yu ex and Tinkaton ex; Snow Hazard has Grusha, Chien-Pao ex, Wo-Chien ex and Giacomo. Many collectors want both.

When was Clay Burst released?

Clay Burst is the SV2D expansion of Scarlet & Violet and was released in Japan on 14 April 2023.
